Josephine Burke

Art Psychotherapy & under 5's specialist

Josephine Burke

I am a registered clinical supervisor with BAAT (British Association of Art Therapists).

I aim to hold hope in supervision through reassurance of strengths and managing risk by providing vision and learning where there are blind spots or lack of knowledge. I believe in the importance of structure, relationship, image and context of the client, as well as the culture within the organisation.

I am passionate about all learning and believe this to be a key component of supervision: discovering new policies, innovative practice, latest research and cutting edge art and culture to enhance multiple view points and develop an understanding, which ultimately contributes to a high quality of care for clients.

I believe the relationship is the most important aspect to therapy. I aim to provide an inclusive service by creating an accessible therapy for all clients. I draw on a humanistic model for this. I use systemic theory to understand the context around the client. In terms of art psychotherapy, I draw upon different theoretical underpinnings: psychodynamic - to see how the client relates to the art object and to reflect on their inner world; mindfulness - to use art-making as a way of drawing attention to the present moment; mentalisation - to enhance client's skills to understand and pay attention to their own feelings, thinking about how their feelings change through making and looking.

Clinical supervision online is charged at £65
Josephine also offers face to face supervision in Stroud
